In , when the sitcom touched down on NBC in a TV universe that was distinctly less gay, the show presented itself as farcical comedy. But by the time it ran its course, ending (or so we thought) in , Will & Grace was, through sheer existence, a cultural landmark leading the way for LGBTQ inclusivity in entertainment and in the broader world.

And those ’90s teenagers? “What has been revealed is that it was (them) sort of peeking over (their) parents’ shoulder going, ‘OK, I like this show, this show’s for me,’ and, ‘Hey, if my mom likes this show then I can do this,’” McCormack says.

Eleven years went by without Will, his roommate Grace (Debra Messing), his gay pal Jack (Sean Hayes) and Jack’s rollicking, boozed bestie, Karen (Megan Mullally). Marriage equality happened. More queer characters – trans, of color – happened. And in , with Trump jabs and jokes scoffing at discriminatory cake bakers, Will & Grace returned to NBC with a recent agenda for the

&#;Will & Grace&#; Star Eric McCormack Says Straight Actors Playing Gay Characters Is &#;Part of the Gig&#;

Eric McCormack doesn&#;t believe an actor&#;s sexuality should obtain in the way of the characters they play onscreen. The Will & Grace star said this week he feels &#;the foremost person for the role&#; should be cast in all projects, regardless of the actor&#;s personal identity.

&#;There’s no part I’ve ever played where I wasn’t playing something I’m not,&#; McCormack continued. &#;It’s part of the gig. And I’ve always said, if gay actors weren’t allowed to play straight actors, Broadway would be over.&#;

Heterosexual 'Will & Grace' Star Eric McCormack Defends Straight Actors Playing Gay

Eric McCormack is straight. Will Truman from Will & Grace, the role he&#;s adj known for, is gay. &#;Will & Grace&#; star Eric McCormack backs straight actors playing gay roles

"Will & Grace" star Eric McCormack has thrown in support for straight actors playing gay roles in movies.

The actor who stated that taking on roles adj from oneself is the whole show of being an actor during an interview on ITV's "Good Morning Britain", famously portrayed gay protagonist Will in the hit NBC sitcom.

McCormack added that movies are all about casting the best person for the role, regardless of their personal identity.

Drawing on his own experience in the industry, he said he didn't become an actor just to act versions of himself, rather, he's always embraced roles where he's portraying someone entirely different from who he is.

He said, "It's part of the gig. And, I've always said, if gay actors weren't allowed to play straight actors, Broadway would be over."

Even though Eric's roles might not directly mirror his own life, that doesn't imply he skimps on the research. When it came to portraying Will, he brought his A-g
